THERE'S A SPY AMONG US!

How about a game about CORPORATE espionage?

Also, there should be nudity... but classy nudity. And the final battle is with Kefka.

Feelings on RMVX RTP usage in games

Hey everyone,

I just got back to gamemaking, and was just introduced to RMVX, a program that I am loving because it's legal and 150% better than RM2K. However, in making my game, I know I'm not going to be using a lot of custom graphics- if I can import sprites spliced together or color-edited to suit my needs, cool beans, but otherwise I want it as simple for me as possible.

That said, what are everyone's feelings about RMVX games using the RMVX RTP graphics heavily or even exclusively? I remember how sick everyone got with RM2K's RTP, but RMVX at least feels fresh to me- would it be too much of an impediment to use some of the stuff, like the cave graphics or the new music tracks? I definitely don't plan to use just RMVX- I can't really, it doesn't work for my story- but I'd like to use a lot of it if it isn't too irritating/boring/overused by this point.

First assumption- your new game has already been cancelled

Random observation, not sure how much can be done about it or if it's already been addressed... but when I went to the Game Submission form to submit my new project, the first box on there is "Game Status," and the automatically-selected option is "Cancelled." I just thought it was kind of funny, the idea of people submitting new games that are already cancelled upon their inception...

Anyways, it seems unintentional, but when there's a little time, could the default value for Status be changed to "Production"? Not meaning to be nitpicky on a great system- maybe just from observing how many games do end up cancelled or on permanent hiatus, it'd be good to start as optimists about games' completion ;D!

GTA: ChinaTown Wars

I'm actually pretty excited for this game. Originally I thought it looked crappy like the original GTAs, but it seems they've really tried to boost the amount of content in this one, and I'm pleasantly surprised that they've included real geography from GTA4. I just hope that the game length is pretty good, even with the lack of a New Jersey to go visit.

Where's Your Username From?

Honestly, it was just a random name I picked because I wanted to impress other people by seeming older and more mature than I really was.

But, other people later on picked up the name as being "MisterY" like it was mysterious, so I confirmed this story to them to make my name cooler than it really was.

WATCHMEN

I read the comic and enjoyed it, but not sure I'll make it to the movie. A friend who's a big comic buff and fan of Watchmen said the movie was pretty good, but common consensus seems that it's just too damn long to be enjoyable.

Besides that, I feel Alan Moore's concerns about the importance of the medium may be valid; the anticlimactic ending from the comics is more forgivable if you're able to flip back and forth to identify themes, anaphora of concepts, etc., whereas a movie either needs to be blatant, have less stuff to chew on, or be more obscure about it. Watchmen was made as a series of comics to be picked up, put down, and digested at a slow pace; a movie running over 2 hours non-stop cuts down the story while preventing the viewer from putting it down. But then again, I'm being pretty unfair without having seen the movie :).

Does Anyone Not Finish Games They Purchase?

I have a problem of quitting RPGs at the very end because I feel the compulsion to do all of the sidequests/optional bosses, but it's too difficult/boring to do so. So, I let the game sit in my 'still going to play this' pile for months until I acknowledge the truth and put the game away.

I got to the Northern Crater in FF7 but quit because I didn't feel like doing the work to get a Gold Chocobo, get KotR, kill the optional Weapons, etc. Similarly, I killed the second-to-last boss in Kingdom Hearts but quit because I wasn't very successful in grinding for the parts for the Ultima Weapon key, and I hadn't fought Sephiroth yet... Most recently, I beat Dragon Quest IV for the DS, but didn't play the new dungeon or fight the new end-boss because I was really tired with the game already.

What Videogames Are You Playing Right Now?

Rock Band 2 and SimCity! My city is named Assfault and it recently became a METROPOLIS of 100,000 citizens! And 73% of my citizens think I'm doing a good job! Yay :D!

I'm also kinda-sorta playing Phantasy Star IV and the Witcher still, but Rock Band 2 & class assignments have got me plenty busy at the moment.

Youtube Poop, and it shames me to no end.

It's an incredibly stupid waste of time thing that's essentially just spliced clips from crappy shows (most of the time from the crappy CDI zelda games)

I'm going to quote this because I feel the exact same way.

YES! And all my friends think I'm lame for liking these stupid cartoons, hehehe.

I like to splurge on unhealthy fatty food and sleep when I'm in a bad mood, but I can't really think of anything I do as a guilty pleasure when I'm not upset with anything. Maybe I have a guilty pleasure of taking on too many time-consuming obligations and disappointing everyone when I do them all poorly?

How about this; are there any cliches that you LIKE?

I just generally prefer RPGs where I do get to save the world. Big, epic 40-hour RPGs where I am ultimately responsible for the salvation of an entire planet or perhaps a solar system. I have problems enjoying RPGs where the point isn't saving the world.
